Developments
The security industry is plagued by the huge cost and inconvenience of dealing with false alarms. Industry statistics indicate that less than 10% of alarm calls prove to be valid, with a vast proportion of false alarms brought about by the inadequacy of the technology employed. Building owners also experience the limitations of traditional security technologies, with the resulting costs and disruption from false alarms.

Irisys are developing intelligent infrared array sensors that provide spatial awareness to give a reliable indication of the size, number, position, direction and speed of intruders. This technology offers the prospect of a new generation of intelligent intruder detection.

As many countries focus on the shift in demographics and increased longevity, the challenge of supporting the elderly is increasing in priority. Greater emphasis is being placed on enabling people to stay in their own homes but a simple fall can have significant effects. Irisys technology has demonstrated the potential to monitor for falls and inactivity, automatically calling for assistance without the need for any action by the resident. By using infrared/thermal imaging the resident’s privacy is maintained.
