Access control systems allow authorised individuals to control access to specific areas in a facility. This is usually controlled by swiping a card or using an electronic key to gain access.
The problem with most access control systems is that they cannot control the number of people who enter the secure premises. This can seriously weaken the security system. When authorised personel enter through an access control point, it is very easy for a person without a card or key to follow them inside. This is known as tailgating.
Irisys’ high accuracy thermal imaging technology detects individuals by their body heat. Irisys thermal imaging sensors will receive a signal from the access control system for every individual card/key holder accepted at an access control point. This is compared with the number of people entering with valid cards. If an individual tries to gain access without presenting a valid card/key, a tailgate alarm will be raised.
Benefits of access control tailgate detection:
- Increased security at access control points
- Detection of unauthorised entry
- Enforces the use of a valid card/key
- Improves roll call accuracy by providing information on number of card holder entries
